Is Slime Green?

In a previous post – Slime Your Tube – I mentioned that the folks at Slime claim their tire sealant is “environmental friendly” but was still waiting for a better explanation. These people at Slime are good; they got back to me within two days and provided some pretty solid information. Here’s a summary of what they shared with me:

  1. Slime is water-based, requiring no soaps or solvents for clean up.
  2. The main ingredient in Slime is food grade and many of the other ingredients come from natural sources and can be categorized as non-toxic and biodegradable.
  3. Rubber particles are used in Slime. Rubber is not a substance that easily degrades, but the rubber used in this product comes from recycles tires and the like.

Is Slime a “zero impact” product? Of course not. But based on this information, the green nature of this tire sealant clearly runs deeper than just its color.
